COLLABORATION IS AT OUR CORE

Site Pieces provides custom design services to assist in the development of creative and cost-effective design solutions.  Collaborating with other designers is truly the most enjoyable part of what we do.  With a full team of industrial designers, we are well equipped to bring your idea to life.

EVERYTHING STARTS WITH A BIG IDEA

To start, landscape architects and designers can bring us their big idea whether that be detailed drawings, a rendering, or a scribble.  Our team can then evaluate the design and determine the overall project feasibility while ensuring it aligns with our own capabilities.

COMMUNICATION IS KEY

As designers, we love to collaborate with other creative minds and help make the design a reality.  Our collaborative process takes the headache out of the design as we share each step of the process, making sure to effectively communicate design intent through technical drawings, renderings, samples, mock-ups and prototypes.

IDEAS + BUDGETING GO HAND-IN-HAND

We’re happy to look at projects in the early phases of the design process to help with budgeting.  We’ve found this helps to alleviate future value-engineering and manage expectations throughout the project.

3D MODELS

Everything you need is available in the SketchUp 3D Warehouse.

THERMALLY MODIFIED ASH

Site Pieces works exclusively with Thermory to source our Thermally Modified Benchmark Ash because it has received the highest possible Class 1 rating for durability and decay resistance for a time period of 25+ years.

The thermal modification process uses only heat and steam to increase the dimensional stability, durability, and natural beauty of the lumber.  This makes Thermory’s White Ash an excellent alternative to tropical hardwoods and contributes to the preservation of our tropical rainforests.

COLOR EVOLUTION

Note:  the natural color evolution of Thermory’s Benchmark Ash will vary with the climate in which it is placed and amount of UV-exposure it receives.
Also, please be advised that these colors are representative and may vary with the natural characteristics of the lumber. Feel free to contact us if you’d like a sample.

PROCESS

HEAT + STEAM

The thermal modification process naturally enhances the wood through the use of heat and steam.  The heat alters the wood, enhancing it completely.  The introduction of steam provides complete control over the thermal modification process.

TECHNOLOGY

The proprietary process uses advanced technology and 20,000 square foot chambers to yield consistent, superior results in every batch.

CONTROL

Wood scientists control the entire modification process and pursue perfection in every board.  From temperature to fan speed, each batch is tailored to optimize results.

KEBONY CLEAR

Kebony Clear is an FSC®-Certified Radiata Pine that undergoes a modification process which alters the cellular structure of the wood without the use of harsh additives or glues. This process makes for a lumber that is dimensionally stable and rich in color while providing tremendous versatility compared to tropical hardwoods. It has also received a Class 1 rating for durability. For this reason, Kebony Clear can handle heavy use on commercial projects and create stunningly beautiful outdoor furnishings.

PROCESS

STEP 1: IMPREGNATION

Impregnation is the process in which the wood is infused with a water-based furfuryl alcohol which is produced from a bio-based liquid to make the lumber dimensionally stable.

STEP 2: CURING AND DRYING

After impregnation, the wood is heated, a process also known as thermal modification. The resulting polymer, which is now permanently locked into the wood cells, is stable and will not disintegrate or leach out of the wood.

RESULT: KEBONY WOOD

After modification, the wood cell walls are 50 percent thicker due to the stable, locked-in polymers which increases the density of the wood to make it harder. This permanent modification of the wood cell walls gives the final wood product outstanding stability, the maximum amount of hardness and a guaranteed long life. Kebony wood also provides a high level of safety as the wood does not splinter or contain any toxins or chemicals.

DESIGNER ALUMINUM

Our designer aluminum is made with a sublimation technology to expand the number of finishes on our products and increasing durability.  The technology we use was developed by a company that was the first ever to use the heat-transfer process on aluminum.

PROCESS

PHASE 1: PRE-TREATMENT

The aluminum is coated using a special polyurethane powder coating which acts as the ground for which the special heat transfer film will be transferred onto.

PHASE 2: FILM APPLIED

After the curing and cooling of the base powder coat, the heat transfer film is applied to the aluminum and the air is vacuumed from inside to perfectly adhere to the aluminum.

PHASE 3: SUBLIMATION

The aluminum is placed in a high temperature oven where the inks contained within the film are transferred by sublimation into the powder coat layer of the aluminum.
